Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand or walk for 6 to 8 hours in an 8-hour workday
- Hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Ability to work in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in wet and cold environments
- Ability to handle knives and other cutting equipment
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to use tools and equipment including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and heavy machinery
Job Qualifications
- 14 plus months retail experience
- Successfully completed Whole Foods Market Butcher Apprentice Program or equivalent training
- Working understanding of meat team processes and procedures
- Excellent cutting skills with ability to break down products into sub-primal and retail cuts
- Extensive knowledge of different cuts and cooking techniques of meat and seafood
- Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to deliver information clearly and respectfully
- Ability to meet customer service standards
- Effective time management and organization skills
- Passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Job Duties
- Cuts, platters, and merchandises products such as beef, pork, lamb, veal, and poultry
- Prepares specialty meat merchandise including sausage, oven ready products, and cured meats
- Checks products to ensure they meet Whole Foods Market quality standards
- Maintains the sampling program
- Monitors and assists in preventing spoilage
- Mentors and supports assigned Meat Cutter Trainees
- Arrives on time, appropriately groomed and dressed, and ready to work all scheduled shifts while attending required trainings and meetings
- Provides excellent customer service, addresses customer needs promptly, and models suggestive selling techniques
- Maximizes sales potential through proper prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising of products
- Follows established procedures including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
- Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment and ensures equipment upkeep
- Performs opening, mid, and closing duties and ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
- Immediately reports safety hazards and violations
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership
