Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- standing/walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour day
- hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
- bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions
- exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- ability to work in wet and cold environments
- ability to handle knives and cutting equipment
- ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- use of tools and equipment such as box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and heavy machinery
Job Qualifications
- 14+ months retail experience
- successful completion of WFM Butcher Apprentice Program or equivalent training
- excellent cutting skills with ability to break down product into sub-primal and retail cuts
- extensive knowledge of meat and seafood cuts and cooking techniques
- ability to examine products for quality and freshness
- strong communication skills
- ability to work as part of a team
- passion for natural foods and mission of Whole Foods Market
- ability to meet customer service expectations
- effective time management and organizational skills
Job Duties
- Cuts, platters, and merchandises products (beef, pork, lamb, veal, poultry)
- prepares specialty meat merchandise (e.g., sausage, oven-ready products, cured meats)
- checks product to ensure it meets quality standards
- maintains sampling program
- monitors and assists in preventing spoilage
- mentors and supports Meat Cutter trainees
- arrives on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work
- provides excellent customer service and models suggestive selling techniques
- maximizes sales potential through effective prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising
- follows and ensures compliance with health, sanitation, and safety practices
- maintains clean and sanitary working and shopping environments
- performs opening, mid, and closing duties
- immediately reports safety hazards and violations
- performs other duties as assigned by leadership
