Job Requirements
- Minimum 14 months retail experience
- Successful completion of Whole Foods Market Butcher Apprentice Program or equivalent training program
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand or walk for 6 to 8 hours during an 8-hour shift
- Ability to perform hand use motions including grasping pushing and pulling
- Ability to bend twist squat and reach
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Ability to work in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in wet and cold environments
- Ability to safely handle knives and cutting equipment
- Flexibility to work nights weekends and holidays
- Ability to use tools and equipment such as box cutters and electric pallet jacks
Job Qualifications
- Working understanding of meat team processes and procedures
- Excellent cutting skills with ability to break product down into sub-primal and retail cuts
- Extensive knowledge of different cuts and cooking techniques of meat and seafood
- Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness
- Capable of accessing market information and communicating it to customers
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to deliver information clearly and respectfully to team members customers and vendors
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards
- Ability to follow directions and procedures
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Passion for natural foods and Whole Foods Market mission
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in fast-paced environment
- Understanding of and compliance with quality goals
Job Duties
- Cuts platters and merchandises products such as beef pork lamb veal and poultry
- Prepares specialty meat merchandise including sausage oven ready products and cured meats
- Checks product to ensure it meets Whole Foods Market quality standards
- Maintains sampling program
- Monitors and assists in preventing spoilage
- Mentors and supports assigned Meat Cutter Trainee(s)
- Arrives to work station on time appropriately groomed dressed and ready to work
- Provides excellent customer service addresses customer needs in a timely manner and models suggestive selling techniques
- Maximizes sales potential through proper prepping storing rotating stocking and merchandising product
- Follows and ensures compliance with established procedures including weights and measures health sanitation and safe work practices
- Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
- Performs opening mid and closing duties as assigned ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing
- Immediately reports safety hazards and violations
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership
