Job Requirements

  • Casual knowledge of cleaning methods, techniques, and equipment
  • ability to relate and communicate with college students
  • lifting of up to 25 pounds is required
  • willingness to work full-time Sunday through Thursday
  • willingness to comply with Bona Fide Female Occupational Qualification (BFOQ)
  • availability to work during university emergency closures
  • ability to handle physical demands of the job

Job Qualifications

  • Casual knowledge of cleaning methods, techniques, and equipment
  • ability to relate and communicate with college students
  • physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • prior experience in custodial or building service roles preferred
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • strong attention to detail and time management skills

Job Duties

  • Perform regularly scheduled cleaning duties in bathrooms, halls, stairways, lobbies, dining rooms, apartments, student rooms, study lounges, pressing rooms, offices, and entrance ways
  • dust mop, operate vacuums, or sweep floor areas
  • wet mop lavatories, bathrooms, and shower areas
  • wash window glass, casings, tracks, ledges, and venetian blinds
  • make beds and tidy bedrooms
  • handle, count, and mend linens
  • spot wash walls to remove marks
  • shampoo and clean upholstery on chairs and sofas
  • re-supply toilet tissue, towels, and similar items in restrooms and locker rooms
  • empty and clean wastepaper baskets and cigarette ash receptacles
  • dust furniture, office equipment, and surfaces
  • clean chalkboards and erasers
  • turn in lost and found articles to supervisor
  • clean and clear trash from building entrances and sweep or shovel snow from entrances
  • report damage or irregularities to supervisor
  • clean and replace cleaning equipment and supplies at end of work period
  • assist in training new building service workers and support employees
  • water plants in public areas
  • change light bulbs in table, desk, and floor lamps in lounge
