Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • minimum of two years of previous experience in custodial or building maintenance assignments
  • knowledge of maintenance, use, safe operation, and repair of cleaning supplies, tools and equipment
  • knowledge of cleaning chemicals
  • knowledge of safe working methods and procedures
  • ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, lift up to 50 pounds with team lift or material handling equipment
  • ability to climb ladders up to 10 feet with assistance and up to eight feet unassisted
  • ability to work on feet for prolonged periods
  • ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • ability to work well without continuous supervision
  • ability to wear uniforms and safety equipment as required
  • may require a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the college’s insurance carrier
  • must be available to work Monday-Friday 6:00 am-2:30 pm and rotational weekends and special weekend events as required
  • must wear uniforms while performing the job

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Cleans offices, classrooms, lecture halls, theaters, art, dance and athletic facilities
  • cleans and services rest rooms and residential quarters
  • performs periodic and annual cleaning services
  • scrubs and refinishes floors and/or carpets
  • refinishes hard, resilient and wood floors
  • operates mechanical floor cleaners, polishers, and carpet cleaning equipment
  • disposes of trash, recyclables and other debris
  • removes graffiti
  • performs furniture set-up and breakdown for meetings and special events
  • moves furniture, such as desks, desk chairs, mattresses and other furniture
  • services dispensing machines
  • activates and deactivates electronic alarm systems
  • secures facilities
  • requests cleaning supplies and materials
  • maintains well-stocked, clean and organized supply closets and carts
  • performs minor repairs, including replacement of lamp bulbs, tightening door or window screen hinges, knobs and locks
  • replacement of vacuum cleaner belts and minor maintenance
  • participates in emergency response activities
  • performs other essential duties and tasks specific to the position
  • actively supports the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties
