Job Requirements

  • Valid Customs Broker License
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related discipline or equivalent 5-10 years’ experience
  • Extensive expertise in import/export regulatory requirements
  • Ability to interpret government regulations
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of southern border clearance process
  • Understanding of financial/accounting principles
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25%
  • High levels of integrity

Job Qualifications

  • Valid Customs Broker License required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related discipline or equivalent experience of 5-10 years
  • Extensive knowledge of import and export regulatory requirements
  • Additional professional certifications desirable
  • Experience with free trade agreements
  • Experience with in-bond transactions
  • Ability to interpret government regulations pertaining to Harmonized Tariff Schedule and Schedule B codes
  • Understanding of financial and accounting principles
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of southern border clearance process
  • Mastery of existing and emerging technologies and practices
  • High integrity and proven record in achieving targets and objectives

Job Duties

  • Manages import and export compliance activities in the U.S. gateway environment in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Develops and maintains relationships with CBP, offering operational advice and identifying opportunities for operational and compliance improvement
  • Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with outside agencies including airlines, handling agents, OGAs and TSA ensuring compliance
  • Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing shipment, receipt and documentation of imported and exported products
  • Monitors in-bond shipments to ensure compliance and closure of in-transit transactions
  • Initiates, monitors and revises policies, procedures and service standards for customs clearance and import operations
  • Interprets trade and compliance policy and provides regulatory guidance related to import procedures, documentation, business processes, record keeping, audits and training
  • Conducts regulatory compliance audits and self-audits, develops and maintains associated databases, reports and documentation, and facilitates corrective actions
  • Ensures timely and accurate duty payment and billing
  • Manages reduction of CBP and OGA fines and penalties
  • Supports global account entry team and import/export managers on compliance
  • Designs, develops and reviews business process flows and procedures, collaborating with management and compliance teams
  • Develops and coordinates internal compliance training
  • Maintains quality communication between Clearance Department, other U.S. gateways and the global network
  • Develops and maintains relationships with customers, sales and gateway operations providing compliance expertise
  • Contributes to compliance team P&L and cost efficiencies
  • Sets and reviews KPIs and objectives for direct reports
  • Travels domestically up to 25% for on-site supervision
  • Manages specific processes such as import entries, export shipments, regulatory audits, post-entry corrections, fines and penalties, duty pay-in, CBP, OGA and BIS compliance and relations
