Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- primary residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years
- referred before 40th birthday, with some exceptions
- successful completion of two-week orientation and 101-day academy at FLETC
- Spanish training if required
- eligible veterans may qualify for excepted service appointment
Job Qualifications
- Minimum one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level
- experience in detaining suspected violators and using proper law enforcement methods
- experience enforcing laws related to importing, exporting, and international shipping
- experience using intelligence techniques and behavior analysis to identify threats
- experience conducting law enforcement interviews
- master’s degree or higher or LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited institution may substitute or complement experience
- combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education may qualify
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
