Job Requirements

  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test including marijuana
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and a driving record meeting the City of Salem's standards
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish speaking, reading, and writing
  • Experience related to libraries or a combination of education, experience, and training demonstrating essential skills
  • Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday including one evening shift per week
  • Knowledge of timely and efficient deadline management

Job Qualifications

  • College degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish including speaking, reading, and writing
  • Experience working with adults and diverse community groups
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills with the public, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of responsible decision making with a mature and professional approach

Job Duties

  • Interact daily with members of the public to deliver library services and provide information in person, by phone, and by email
  • Connect customers with library products, services, materials, and events including answering questions about services and accounts
  • Provide routine and complex reference and readers' advisory services
  • Maintain technical expertise and instruct patrons in library technology and digital resources
  • Design, plan, and implement events and activities for adults focusing on community members not currently attending
  • Manage assigned library collection areas including selection, evaluation, and maintenance of materials
  • Represent the library at community events and meetings to promote resources, services, and programs
