Job Requirements

  • County of San Diego ServSafe Food Handler Card
  • CA ABC Responsible Beverage Service Certification
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Minimum 1 year bartending experience
  • Minimum 6 months guest service experience
  • Minimum 6 months food service experience
  • General wine knowledge
  • Knowledge of both food and drink menus
  • Working knowledge of responsible alcohol beverage service
  • Working knowledge of liquor license guidelines
  • Ability to mix a wide variety of alcoholic beverages
  • Ability to prepare beverages from recipes
  • Ability to assess guest sobriety and stop service when necessary
  • Ability to count cash and make change
  • Ability to recognize counterfeit money
  • Ability to perform simple calculations
  • Ability to arrive on time
  • Ability to interact with diverse guests and team members
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English

Job Duties

  • Provides guests with bar service by reviewing banquet event orders, ensuring and verifying bar and beverage set up, greeting guests in a friendly manner, mixing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, preparing beverages according to standard recipes, cleaning and preparing garnishes, opening bottles and pouring alcohol, serving wine and beer, delivering food orders when appropriate, informing banquet captain and kitchen staff of adjustments or timing, refilling and removing glassware as appropriate
  • Maintains a safe, sanitary, and presentable work area by securing beverage cabinets and taps, checking beverage products for freshness and temperature, replenishing stock, cleaning bar and counters, arranging bottles and glasses properly
  • Provides accounting of transactions during shift by charging correctly for alcohol, entering cash transactions into POS system, counting currency, logging guest comps, points and credit cards, balancing money drawer, reporting discrepancies to supervisor
  • Ensures responsible alcohol beverage service policies are followed by checking guest identification for those under 30, monitoring consumption, preventing intoxication, stopping alcohol service at the designated time, and clearing alcohol containers and glasses as required
  • Communicates effectively with guests and team members to enhance customer experience
  • Assists in maintaining inventory levels and notifying management of supply needs
  • Performs opening and closing duties as assigned
  • Complies with all safety and sanitation standards
  • Participates in training and development as required
