Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • minimum of two years related experience and/or training
  • certificate from bar tending school preferred
  • certified sommelier or WSET Level 1
  • excellent customer service skills
  • inventory control skills
  • ability to work unusual hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to interpret data and prepare reports
  • ability to communicate well in English
  • ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • ability to interact professionally with superiors, co-workers, and members
  • ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • minimum of two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • certificate from bar tending school preferred
  • certified sommelier or WSET Level 1
  • excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • inventory control and reordering skills
  • ability to interpret data and prepare reports
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and inventory software
  • proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) electronic ordering system
  • ability to communicate well in English
  • ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
  • ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instruction in English
  • ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships

Job Duties

  • Serves drinks to members and guests and supervises bartenders so that the highest standards of customer service are met
  • trains new employees as well as existing staff members
  • schedules staff for adequate bar coverage
  • maintains proper inventory levels of bar stock and orders liquor, beer, wine and miscellaneous supplies
  • performs monthly inventory of all bars to ensure proper stock is available and to identify possible shortages
  • performs pre and post event inventory to accurately cost out each event
  • maintains bar sanitation procedures in compliance with Health Department regulations
  • stocks appropriate glassware for all shifts and notifies management of shortages
  • supervises all bar opening and closing duties including side work to ensure operational efficiency
  • responsible for setup and breakdown of all bars in restaurants and banquets
  • creates wine list and beverage list such as specialty cocktails and after dinner drinks, responsible for the implementation and maintenance of cocktail list themed to each outlet
  • controls the bartenders on pours and quantity of liquor uses
  • assists with the setup of happy hour buffet table as necessary
  • assists with taking cocktail orders on the floor as necessary
  • handles member complaints and issues
  • may have to taste a member’s alcoholic beverage in response to a member complaint
  • meets with vendors and reps to get best pricing and tastings for events
  • manages payroll responsibilities for bar staff
  • communicates with members, co-workers, management, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner
  • conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions
  • exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club
  • performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Food & Beverage
