Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in banquet or event management
  • Ability to lead and manage a team effectively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of food and beverage operations
  • Must comply with certification requirements such as TABC, Food Handlers, Alcohol Awareness, CPR & First Aid
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Proficiency with POS systems
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Physical ability to assist in setup and breakdown of events

Job Duties

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Odessa Marriott Hotel standards, as required by scheduling
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including proper uniform and name tag as per brand standards
  • Comply at all times with hotel standards and regulations for safe and efficient operations
  • Comply with certification requirements such as TABC, Food Handlers, Alcohol Awareness, CPR & First Aid
  • Prepare schedules and wage progress reports for banquet employees
  • Prepare payroll and tip distribution for the banquet department
  • Assist in setup, service, and breakdown of banquet functions
  • Coordinate all banquet related food and beverage requirements with appropriate departments
  • Keep kitchen informed of accurate plating counts
  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate banquet personnel with Director of Food & Beverage assistance
  • Review menu/service with Catering Manager or Sales designee
  • Maintain up to date details on banquet functions and communicate to supervisors
  • Provide ongoing training of captains/hourly employees to maintain service standards and guest service scores
  • Respond promptly to guest requests
  • Prepare banquet checks, obtain guest signatures, and inform clients of payment procedures
  • Notify F & B Director of materials and equipment needing ordering or replacement
  • Requisition liquor and supplies for banquet bars
  • Ensure safety, sanitation, and cleanliness of service areas
  • Implement loss prevention programs among service employees
  • Attend weekly Food & Beverage meetings and other property meetings
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as scheduled
  • Conduct menu classes to develop staff
  • Attend BEO meetings as scheduled
  • Foster professional working relationships and open communication with managers, employees, and other departments
  • Ensure pre-meal meetings are conducted for all functions
  • Control and audit alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Review banquet staff hours for payroll and submit to accounting
  • Supervise Banquet Captains/supervisors and observe hourly service personnel
  • Assist F & B Director and Catering Manager with promotions or changes
  • Control and maintain all service equipment and write service requests
  • Cross train as manager/supervisor in other F & B outlets
  • Assist audio/visual company as necessary
  • Operate POS system proficiently
  • Correct hazards and notify F & B Director/Safety Committee
  • Submit supply orders for approval and maintain inventory levels
  • Manage lost and found items per standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of F & B, AGM, or General Manager
