Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages
  • TIPS training within 60 days of employment

  • one year experience as a Banquet Food Server
  • certification of previous training in liquor, wine and food service
  • knowledge of specific room set-up styles
  • fluency in a foreign language, preferably Spanish
  • certification in an alcoholic awareness program
  • ability to suggestively sell
  • previous guest relations training.

Job Duties

  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards
  • maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment
  • anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day
  • maintain positive guest relations at all times
  • be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities in order to respond to guest inquiries accurately
  • resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction
  • monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas
  • maintain complete knowledge of service requirements for assigned function including pre-function side work, detailed menu selections, major ingredients, appearance, texture, quality standards, garnish and method of presentation, particular characteristics/description of wines/champagne ordered, prices for specified bar selections on cash bars, station assignment and table set-up, group name, type of function, expected attendance, scheduled hours of service, special requests/arrangements, order of service, traffic flow in room, VIPs
  • maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving
  • complete pre-function side work such as checking quality and amount of all stock and supplies using checklist, transporting supplies from storeroom to service area, folding napkins, setting linen/skirting on tables, setting tables according to service standards, setting up condiments and beverages, ensuring sufficient supplies of silverware, glassware and chinaware, preparing designated cold food items, checking cleanliness and condition of assigned stations and service areas, greeting guests and assisting with seating
  • take guests' alcoholic beverage orders utilizing suggestive selling techniques
  • record and document orders
  • retrieve alcoholic beverage items from bar and serve to guests
  • open and serve wine/champagne bottles
  • make all varieties of coffee
  • serve food courses and non-alcoholic beverages per function requirements
  • clear courses and remove tabletop items
  • set up, monitor, refresh and breakdown coffee breaks, receptions, and buffet tables
  • complete closing side duties including breakdown, cleaning, restocking, proper storage, and securing storage areas
  • adhere to payment, cash handling and credit policies
  • must be certified in TIPS training within 60 days of employment.
