Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • previous banquet server experience preferred
  • able to follow directions and get along well with others
  • must be TIPS, CARE or equivalent certified or become certified by first day
  • able to stand for long periods
  • able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • maintain responsible alcohol service certification
  • good communication skills
  • teamwork orientation

Job Duties

  • Reviews and understands the banquet event order
  • completes setup according to the BEO
  • sets tables in assigned area correctly and uniformly with clean linen, silverware, china, and glassware
  • learns the menu for each function served and explains ingredients and preparation
  • stands in assigned station prior to function start
  • acknowledges and responds to guests' requests
  • keeps station neat and clean during service
  • patrols assigned station to refill drinks and remove service items
  • ensures guest needs are met
  • uses proper in-room clearing and aisle tray breakdown procedures
  • returns reusable table complements and condiments to be cleaned and refilled
  • assists Captain or Manager in buffet and special food service setup and breakdown
  • sets up, serves, and breaks down coffee breaks, receptions, and other special functions
  • handles banquet bar setup and breakdown
  • follows cash and guest check procedures
  • returns excess food to kitchen following sanitation guidelines
  • completes assigned side work such as refilling condiments and cleaning serving equipment
  • assists steward with banquet back hall and storage area organization
  • learns and applies proper service procedures
  • assists co-workers as needed
  • stays updated on hotel events affecting responsibilities
  • maintains responsible alcohol service certification
  • mixes and serves alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks during banquet events
  • sets up, services, breaks down, and cleans coffee break areas and carts
  • presents breaks attractively and completely
  • prepares beverages correctly per standards
  • secures beverage coolers and storage at shift's end
  • follows all company, hotel, and departmental policies and procedures
  • demonstrates active listening skills
