The Banquet Barback role at The Oncenter, part of ASM Global's extensive network, is a vital position within the Food & Beverage department. This part-time, non-exempt role is unionized under Local 150, AFL-CIO, with a competitive pay rate of $15.87 per hour. The work schedule is flexible, encompassing nights, weekends, holidays, and occasionally long shifts, offering an excellent opportunity for those seeking adaptable part-time employment. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Concessions, the Banquet Barback plays an essential support role to ensure smooth and efficient bar operations during banquets and events.
In this role, the Banquet Barback is responsible for maintaining, replenishing, and organizing bar supplies to support efficient beverage service. This includes tasks such as moving and assembling portable bars, stocking supplies like glasses, napkins, ice, and condiments, and ensuring the bar and service areas are clean and well-organized at all times. Accurate compliance with inventory control measures and sanitation standards is critical to the role, ensuring a safe and professional working environment. Candidates will engage in a variety of physical tasks including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods in a fast-paced setting. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years’ experience in food and/or bar service
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Physical ability to maneuver around the venue, including walking or standing for 8-10 hours or more, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying 75 lbs+, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting
- Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced environment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years’ experience in food and/or bar service
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Exceptional hospitality and customer service skills, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette
- Ability to make professional, independent, and good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedures
- ServSafe and TIPS certification a plus
Job Duties
- Provide total guest satisfaction through skilled and capable service in accordance with New York State laws and company policies
- Complete tasks related to stocking, replenishing, cleaning, maintenance, and preparation of beverages
- Move and assemble portable bars
- Set up and breakdown point of sales systems, cash drawers, and printers
- Maintain and stock adequate supplies of bar items such as glasses, cups, napkins, drink supplies, ice, condiments
- Prepare food items needed in the preparation of drinks
- Clean and polish bar, counters, shelves, and equipment
- Comply with inventory control measures
- Return all product and equipment to proper storage location
- Remove all trash and recyclables from bar areas and dispose of properly
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and stocked work area following sanitation standards
- Maintain a professional appearance and professional relationships with coworkers at all times
