Job Duties

  • Prepare bakery and deli items per customer requests using proper equipment
  • Offer product samples to customers to help discover new items
  • Inform customers of bakery and deli specials
  • Provide fresh products with correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
  • Recommend deli or bakery items to meet customer needs
  • Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to guidelines
  • Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions
  • Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • Package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise
  • Check product quality for freshness and review sell-by dates
  • Properly use kitchen equipment including stove, fryer, steamer, and scales
  • Stock and inventory department merchandise
  • Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies to the department manager
  • Locate products for customers within the store layout
  • Stay current with seasonal and special ads
  • Maintain knowledge of department products to respond to questions and make suggestions
  • Monitor inventory and note discrepancies
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers with maintained logs
  • Promote trust and respect among associates
  • Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Comply with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions
  • Perform preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting issues
  • Notify management of accidents
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced environment
  • Manage conflict in a nonconfrontational manner
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
