Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in a bakery or food service environment is advantageous
  • Must have outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Capable of standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well in a team
  • Basic math skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to comply with all food safety standards
  • Ability to obtain food handler's permit if not currently held

Job Duties

  • Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
  • Offer product samples to customers to help discover new items
  • Inform customers of bakery specials and promotions
  • Provide customers with fresh products in correct portion sizes to reduce shrink
  • Recommend bakery items to fulfill customer needs
  • Use bakery equipment including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens according to guidelines
  • Prepare foods following cooking/baking instructions and maintain food temperature logs
  • Measure, prepare and mix ingredients using various kitchen utensils
  • Package, label and inventory ingredients and merchandise
  • Check product quality and review sell-by dates to ensure freshness
  • Use kitchen equipment such as stove, fryer, steamer, and scales properly
  • Label, stock and inventory department merchandise
  • Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies to the manager
  • Locate products for customers within the store layout
  • Stay updated with current, future, and seasonal ads
  • Maintain product knowledge to answer questions and make suggestions
  • Monitor inventory and note discrepancies
  • Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers with documented logs
  • Promote trust and respect among associates
  • Create welcoming environment by answering customer questions
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Follow safety procedures and report unsafe conditions
  • Display a positive attitude
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment and report repair needs
  • Notify management of any customer or employee accidents
  • Report any safety risks or illegal activities including theft or fraud
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
