Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum 2 years experience in baking or commercial food service
  • experience in supervisory roles
  • ability to work Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days
  • ability to manage bakery operations and workflows
  • strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to maintain food safety and hygiene standards

Job Qualifications

  • associate's degree or certificate in baking or equivalent experience
  • minimum 2 years experience in baking or commercial food service and supervisory roles
  • ability to manage bakery operations including high-volume recipe production and allergen-aware baking
  • ServSafe certification within 60 days (training provided)

Job Duties

  • perform baking duties and prepare breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, pies, cakes, doughnuts, biscuits, and other pastries according to college recipes
  • plan pastries and desserts for Ruth's Marketplace and the Catering Department
  • direct and oversee daily bakery operations
  • coordinate workflow and lead one full-time baker
  • oversee student workers in the bakery
  • hire, develop, counsel, evaluate, and discipline bakery staff
  • attend regular departmental meetings
  • assist Head Chef and Assistant Head Chefs with planning cost-effective bakery recipes considering space, equipment, workflow, and efficiency
  • review production schedules to determine variety and quantity of goods to bake
  • assemble supplies and equipment for daily baking
  • complete production sheets and records
  • receive ingredients and supplies from the main kitchen
  • collaborate with Purchaser on bakery ingredient needs
  • rotate inventory and ensure products are properly labeled, dated, and stored
  • address equipment and food supply issues
  • detect and manage spoiled or defective food and supplies
  • ensure compliance with food hygiene and safety standards
  • clean and maintain bakery workstations, utensils, and equipment
