Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- ability to lift and maneuver objects up to approximately 60 lbs
- ability to stand for long periods

- knowledge of bakery department policies and procedures
- ability to operate telephones, pallet jack, hand truck, knives, scissors, safety cutters, bread slicer, photo cake machine, mixer, microwave, ovens, and proof boxes
- compliance with company grooming standards and dress code
- mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate completion of work
- willingness to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- good attendance

Job Qualifications

- previous experience in bakery, food service, or retail environment preferred

- ability to operate bakery equipment safely
- knowledge of product handling, sanitation, and labeling

Job Duties
- maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly customer service
- assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders and food preparation suggestions
- answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately
- receives and resolves customer complaints and reports to store director as needed
- engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom, and one-on-one customer interaction
- answers questions regarding ingredients, price, and freshness of products
- helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items, including adding personalization
- may be asked to write messages on cakes with icing
- implements proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques
- maintains bakery case cleanliness, sample tray, visual appeal, and inventory levels
- ensures proper cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of bakery area and equipment and a safe work environment
- slices bread and prepares bakery items including proofing, baking, packaging, and icing
- ensures temperatures are maintained in all phases of preparation, display, and storage
- assists with physical inventory every four weeks
- controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness
- stocks and rotates product
- maintains and organizes cooler
- understands opening and closing department procedures
- builds displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product
- enforces proper code dating for all products
- follows and maintains department standards
- implements promotional and seasonal displays
- performs receiving duties including breaking downloads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product
- complies with product temperature and storage guidelines and packaging techniques
- processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records
- completes and monitors daily log sheets, production charts, sales and labor reports, and other paperwork
- controls shrink and cost
- ensures proper signing of products and complies with labeling laws, regulations, company and code dating policies
- complies with workplace safety rules
- ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, prep area, and display area
- performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity
- performs other necessary duties as assigned
