Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • push and pull approximately 100 lbs. of product on racks
  • lift objects chest high up to 50 lbs.
  • conduct visual inspections and follow production guides and recipes
  • catch breads and operate kitchen utensils with manual dexterity
  • maintain composure working with customers and co-workers
  • reach overhead to place product on racks
  • stand, walk, and move rapidly for extended periods
  • bend, stoop, balance, crouch, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, perform repetitive movements, and reach frequently
  • handle bakery ingredients
  • perform basic math and compute weights and measures
  • maintain mental alertness around potential hazards
  • respond to audible timers on baking equipment
  • work around equipment and products emitting heat
  • follow safety, sanitation, and department policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior bakery or food preparation experience preferred
  • ability to operate bakery equipment including ovens, proof box, mixers, bread sheeter
  • knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures
  • ability to read and follow production guides, recipes, and labels
  • strong customer service and communication skills
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to handle physical demands of the job such as lifting up to 50 lbs. and standing for extended periods
  • Food Handlers Certification as per state laws
  • ability to perform basic math

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • produce bakery products for retail stores
  • operate and clean equipment and work area
  • maintain clean, safe and sanitary bakery area and equipment
  • package all fresh products following all packaging and handling procedures
  • ensure quality of goods by following code
  • mix icing or other toppings by scaling and measuring ingredients, operating mixer, reading recipe, occasionally lifting 50 lbs. bags of sugar, shortening, and flour
  • dump icing or toppings into large storage containers
  • set-up cakes by removing liners and putting icing between layers for numerous items
  • ice cakes by combining icing onto cake, lifting buckets, bordering, placing decorations for numerous items
  • package cakes by placing in box
  • label bakery items by inputting data into scanning machine and placing labels
  • display products on shelves in an appealing manner using FIFO for rotation
  • take orders by phone and in person
  • personalize cakes by writing desired words
  • face merchandise
  • maintain enthusiastic customer awareness providing fast, friendly service
  • engage in suggestive selling and sales techniques in person, phone, and in-store intercom
  • display goods by following packaging and handling procedures and company guidelines for stock and appearance
  • assist customers with inquiries including special orders
  • ensure quality by following code dating procedures and legal regulations
  • keep manager informed of stock levels and fill out inventory and production sheets
  • produce breads/rolls by mixing, setting up racks and pans, operating machines and ovens
  • clean work area using various tools
  • produce croissants by folding, proofing, and baking
  • open and close bakery according to procedures
  • perform other duties as assigned or needed
