Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in bakery or food service preferred
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to 60 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to perform repetitious arm movements
  • Comply with company grooming standards and dress code
  • Mental alertness for safe and accurate work completion
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
  • Good attendance
  • Ability to operate relevant bakery equipment and use cleaning supplies safely

  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor with customers and co-workers
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, handling, sanitation, labeling and department policies
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures
  • Ability to operate bakery equipment such as mixers, ovens, bread slicers, proof boxes, and electronic ordering devices
  • Ability to follow opening and closing department procedures
  • Ability to implement sales techniques and assist customers effectively
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow safety regulations

Job Duties

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with fast and friendly customer service
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders and providing food preparation suggestions
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately, resolve customer complaints and report to Store Director as needed
  • Engage in suggestive selling and sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom, and one-on-one customer interaction
  • Help customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items, including adding personalization and writing messages on cakes with icing
  • Implement proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques
  • Maintain bakery case cleanliness, sample tray, visual appeal, and inventory levels
  • Slice bread and prepare bakery items including proofing, baking, packaging, and icing products
  • Ensure temperatures are maintained in all phases of preparation, display, and storage
  • Assist with physical inventory taken every 4 weeks
  • Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality and freshness
  • Stock and rotate product
  • Understand opening and closing department procedures
  • Build displays, rotate and discard outdated or spoiled product
  • Ensure cleanliness of work area and department
  • Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department
  • Follow and maintain department standards
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays
  • Perform receiving duties including breaking downloads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortage, stocking, and rotating product
  • Adhere to product temperature and storage guidelines and proper packaging techniques
  • Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records
  • Complete and monitor daily logs, production charts, sales and labor records
  • Control shrink and cost
  • Ensure proper product temperature and signing
  • Comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company and code dating policies
  • Comply with all workplace safety rules and regulations
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, prep and display areas including code date compliance
  • Perform duties safely, accurately, honestly and with integrity
  • Perform other necessary duties as required
