Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience
- Ability to exert physical force including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Ability to meet visual requirements including color vision, depth perception, and field of vision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced bakery environment with exposure to flour dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, and temperature extremes
- Must adhere to company policies and store guidelines
- Must report to work as scheduled and on time
- Employment contingent on successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to interpret instructions and handle a variety of tasks with limited standardization
- Ability to file, post, and mail materials
- Good communication skills to guide people and provide basic direction
- Knowledge of cake decorating techniques and current design trends
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Professionalism and customer focus
- Ability to operate bakery tools and equipment such as mixers, ovens, turntables, airbrush machines, and telephones
Job Duties
- Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions
- Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner, whether in the bakery or elsewhere in the store
- Learn and use customers' names whenever possible
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, and enhancing their shopping experience
- Answer telephone calls promptly and take bakery product orders
- Take customer orders at the bakery counter
- Work collaboratively with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- Check daily orders and develop a timeline and production schedule
- Decorate bakery items in a timely manner
- Stay current on new cake designs and trends
- Ensure department standards for quality and presentation are met
- Verify cake orders for details such as size, decoration, icing needs, and dates
- Order and manage supplies for the decorating area
- Deliver and set up wedding cakes on-site when required
- Communicate daily with the bakery manager about displays, ads, and special requirements
- Check product dates, pull cases for work, and list items needing replenishment
- Develop bakery orders for daily production
- Track daily retail production and assign tasks as needed
- Act as a lead worker for part-time employees, providing instruction and work review
- Participate in employee cross-training
- Maintain proper sanitation and cleanliness in the work area
- Adhere to company policies and store guidelines
- Report to work on time consistently
