Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or general education degree (ged)
  • three to six months related experience
  • ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, memos, bakery orders, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and schedules
  • ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
  • ability to speak, read, and understand English
  • ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers
  • ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • ability to resolve conflicts to create win-win situations
  • ability to analyze situations, think through to a solution and implement it
  • ability to stand for long periods of time
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • assist in the development of the bakery department by coordinating activities of all employees engaged in the sales and processing of bakery products in the absence of the bakery manager
  • lead by example
  • model correct behavior and adherence to company policies and procedures
  • train and develop employees to assure freshness, quality, customer service, and sanitation
  • ensure proper training on weighing, slicing, cutting, and serving of bakery goods
  • train employees in suggestive selling and merchandising techniques, and customer service skills
  • assist the bakery manager with ordering and receiving of products, and proper invoice routing
  • implement and execute all merchandising programs
  • set up advertising displays or arrange merchandise on counters and tables to promote sales
  • assure consistency in bakery department policies and procedures by observing employee work habits and providing necessary feedback
  • maintain the bakery department under current California weights & measures mandates and train all employees on the use of proper tares and accurate weights
  • monitor price integrity standards by focusing on accurate pricing, correct signage, and posted weights
  • package, display, and merchandise all bakery goods according to company standards
  • maintain current health codes and company standards regarding sanitation and cleanliness
  • understand proper usage of authorized cleaning chemicals
  • follow the FIFO rotation system to maintain freshness of product and reduce shrink
  • cover, label, and date all leftover products
  • inspect items during baking processes including measuring temperatures to maintain quality and sanitation
  • inspect finished bakery products to ensure standards of quality, weight specifications, and presentation
  • follow safety work standards and report any safety hazards
  • document all safety training and report accidents according to compliance
  • focus on inventory control, including theft, shrink, and proper storage to avoid loss of product
  • bake products as needed
  • assist with receiving, breakdown, and storage of bakery products
  • maintain cleanliness of bakery department
  • manage communication with bakery manager and store director on all department-related issues
  • assist with work scheduling and cost control including overtime and supply costs
  • assist customers with orders using suggestive selling techniques
  • provide customers with extraordinary service that exceeds expectations
  • address customer complaints or inquiries to ensure satisfaction
  • enforce employee handbook policies regarding service standards and appearance
  • meet and exceed standards in service, quality, freshness, and cleanliness
