Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years experience in full service restaurant preferred
  • Ability to read limited two- and three-syllable words
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers
  • Ability to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
  • Ability to perform operations using American weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Must be able to apply common sense understanding to follow written or oral instructions
  • Ability to use Stratton Warren purchasing system
  • Ability to use all kitchen tools and equipment
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and execute recipes
  • Must be able to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell regularly
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 100 pounds
  • Must have specific vision abilities including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to work in environments with moving mechanical parts and occasionally wet, humid, toxic, cold, or hot conditions
  • Noise level usually moderate

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of two years experience in a full service restaurant preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand simple sentences
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to apply common sense to detailed but uninvolved instructions
  • Ability to use Stratton Warren purchasing system
  • Skilled in using all kitchen tools and equipment
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and execute recipes

Job Duties

  • Measures and mixes ingredients to form dough or batter using electric mixer or by hand
  • Accurately follows and adheres to established recipes
  • Shapes dough for cookies, pies, and fancy pastries
  • Accurately bakes products to recipe specifications
  • Adjusts drafts or thermostatic controls to regulate oven temperatures
  • Prepares and cooks ingredients for pie fillings, puddings, custards, or other desserts
  • Pours filling into pie shells and tops filling with meringue or cream
  • Mixes ingredients to make icings and blends colors for icings and decorations
  • Decorates and finishes cakes and pastries for all occasions
  • Makes chocolate and sugar decorations for buffet presentations
  • Operates bake shop equipment including ovens, mixers, dividers, rounders, and dough sheeters
  • Adheres to proper time and temperature controls
  • Covers, labels, and dates all food products properly before storage
  • Follows FIFO procedures when stocking and replenishing
  • Understands and follows production logs and quantities precisely
  • Initiates a positive guest experience at buffet stations with greetings and food descriptions
  • Thoroughly cleans work station and equipment before end of shift
  • Performs other duties as assigned
