Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Six months to one year of related baking experience
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently
Ability to perform physical activities such as stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
Good vision including color vision, depth perception, and field of vision
Ability to solve practical problems with limited instructions
Ability to copy data and provide basic direction
Willingness to comply with company hygiene and dress policies
Ability to report to work on time and as scheduled
Completion of pre-employment drug screen

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent experience
Over six months up to one year of similar or related baking experience
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Knowledge of safe baking and sanitation practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to operate bakery equipment
Basic arithmetic skills involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Leadership skills to guide bakery clerks and apprentices

Job Duties

Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions
Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner both within and outside the bakery department
Make an effort to learn and address customers by name whenever possible
Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing hard-to-reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along customer suggestions or requests, and enhancing the shopping experience
Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service including taking product orders
Check daily orders and establish production timelines and schedules
Prepare makeup, bake, and fry all bakery products as required
Review product freshness and pull items approaching stale dates
Invoice and store products following instructions from the department manager
Anticipate product needs for current and future days
Inspect incoming products for quality and quantity
Operate bakery equipment safely and follow up on maintenance issues
Check signage for accurate labels on advertised items
Review bakery area for safety issues and adhere to company safety guidelines
Lead bakery clerks and prioritize orders based on customer and management requests
Proof necessary items and handle products from freezer or cooler
Maintain proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat
Follow company guidelines on personal hygiene and dress code
Report to work as scheduled and on time
Order supplies and merchandise (except cake decorating items) as directed by the bakery manager
Re-merchandise shelves and dispose of or recycle outdated products
Write department schedules and manage employee attendance and replacements in the absence of the bakery manager
Assist in other store areas as needed
Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned
