Job Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to understand symbols of weight and measure and to mathematically convert volume and weight in recipes
  • Minimum one-year experience as Baker's Helper or demonstrating mastery of basic scratch baking functions
  • Preferred two years post-secondary Culinary School attendance
  • Neat and clean appearance
  • Willingness to promote a diverse and inclusive campus community

Job Duties

  • Perform basic culinary baking skills such as scaling and mixing doughs, batters, fillings, and frostings
  • Use knowledge of Danish Puff Paste and Cream Puff Dough, recipe formulation, and oven work
  • Practice proper storage of baked and unbaked items, frostings, fillings, creams, glazes, and syrups
  • Observe standardized recipes and procedures and ensure proper holding and serving times and temperatures
  • Coordinate efforts of others in accomplishing simple tasks and assist subordinates
  • Maintain safety precautions when using all Bake Shop equipment and handling hazards
  • Clean, disassemble, and sanitize kitchen equipment and maintain a sanitary work area
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on Bake Shop equipment and report malfunctions
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and regulations of the Bake Shop, department, and University
  • Learn and demonstrate tasks of Second Baker to improve skills
  • Cooperate with peers and maintain a professional appearance
  • Perform other tasks as requested
