Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience as a baker in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility
  • Experience operating baking equipment
  • Experience following recipes
  • Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 62 pounds
  • Must successfully complete strength and agility testing prior to employment
  • Must comply with all university and departmental policies
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Ability to work varying shifts as needed

Job Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a baker in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility
  • Experience operating baking equipment
  • Experience following recipes
  • Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining
  • Culinary degree preferred
  • Two years of experience as a baker preferred
  • Experience preparing and baking from scratch preferred
  • High volume baking experience preferred
  • Ability to multitask and work with little supervision preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of all types of baked goods utilizing commercial kitchen equipment
  • Read and comprehend recipes including recipe conversions
  • Independently prepare recipes in a high-volume establishment
  • Execute recipes according to business needs aiming to reduce waste and provide fresh products
  • Report any recipe discrepancies to the Chef
  • Assist with preparing product transfers and requisitions for bakery location
  • Complete daily production records and waste sheets
  • Clean all bakery areas and maintain hot and cold storage areas safely and organized
  • Check computer printouts for menu amounts and recipes
  • Review menu and purchase requirements
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient food service
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Ensure baked goods are visually appealing and presented attractively
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with staff and customers
  • Maintain knowledge of all areas of responsibility
  • Ensure timely delivery of quality products
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Ensure proper labeling and storage of products
  • Maintain temperature logs
  • Avoid cross contamination
  • Adhere to University and UHD policies
  • Complete and maintain required food safety training including Texas Food Handler Safety
  • Follow work safety guidelines and use proper PPE
  • Perform other duties as assigned
