Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months to one year of related baking experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently
  • Ability to perform physical activities including stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, temperature-variable environment
  • Availability to work scheduled hours and report on time
  • Willingness to complete a pre-employment drug screen

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months to one year of similar or related baking experience
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to follow company policies and safety standards
  • Basic knowledge of bakery equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage bakery clerks and apprentices

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting customer suggestions
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service including taking product orders
  • Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule
  • Prepares, bakes and fries all department products as needed
  • Reviews the status and appearance of products for freshness and pulls items by stale date
  • Invoices and puts away product as instructed
  • Anticipates product needs for current and future days
  • Inspects incoming product quality and quantity
  • Understands bakery equipment use and maintenance
  • Checks signage for correct labels
  • Reviews department for safety issues
  • Operates as a lead with bakery clerks
  • Prioritizes orders per customer and department manager requests
  • Proofs necessary items
  • Pulls product from freezer or cooler
  • Practices proper sanitation and maintains a clean work area
  • Maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
  • Adheres to company policies and store guidelines
  • Reports to work on time and when scheduled
  • Orders supplies and merchandise items as directed
  • Reviews and re-merchandises shelves
  • Writes department schedule and manages employee attendance in manager's absence
  • Assists in other store areas as needed
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required
