Job Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to understand symbols of weight and measure and convert volume and weight measures in recipes
  • One-year experience as Baker's Helper or equivalent mastery of basic scratch baking functions
  • Two years of post-secondary Culinary School attendance preferred
  • Neat and clean appearance
  • Willingness to promote a diverse and inclusive campus community
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push or pull carts weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to tolerate extreme heat and cold
  • Must consistently use all Personal Protective Equipment as per guidelines
  • Must wear cut resistant gloves when using sharp tools
  • Ability to perform required tasks with speed, efficiency, safety and accuracy

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated mastery of basic scratch baking functions or one year experience as Baker's Helper

Job Duties

  • Produce all baked goods and desserts according to standardized recipes and culinary techniques
  • Use various baking skills including scaling, mixing doughs, batters, fillings, and frostings
  • Handle Danish Puff Paste and Cream Puff Dough and understand recipe formulation
  • Store baked and unbaked items properly including frostings, fillings, creams, glazes, and syrups
  • Coordinate and assist team members with simple tasks
  • Follow safety precautions and operate bakery equipment safely
  • Clean, sanitize and maintain kitchen equipment and work area
  • Practice correct food handling procedures to prevent foodborne illness
  • Report equipment malfunctions and perform basic maintenance
  • Observe all policies, procedures, and regulations of the Bake Shop, department, and university
  • Continually improve baking skills and demonstrate responsibilities of advanced baking roles
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed, professional appearance
  • Perform additional tasks as requested
