Job Requirements

  • two years as a baker or pastry chef strongly preferred
  • must take and pass all required tests with 90 percent or higher
  • ability to stand on feet for 8 to 12 hours a day in hot and crowded conditions
  • ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
  • ability to follow health and safety protocols including wearing PPE such as face mask non-slip shoes back belt safety gloves and chef pants
  • ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work area
  • dependability to report to work as scheduled and on time
  • ability to work in a fast-paced high energy environment
  • physical ability to perform tasks such as bending grasping speaking reaching squatting kneeling and cleaning under and around equipment

Job Duties

  • prepare all bakery items following standardized recipes including measuring ingredients and cutting pastry products
  • maintain clean and sanitized work area throughout the shift complying with sanitation and health codes
  • ensure consistency and quality for all food items prepared
  • observe color of products being baked and adjust oven temperatures humidity or proofer settings accordingly
  • set oven temperatures and place items into hot ovens for baking
  • combine measured ingredients according to recipes using appropriate cookware
  • portion roll knead cut or shape dough to form breads buns pizza dough pie dough or other baked goods
  • place doughs in pans molds or on sheets and bake in ovens
  • check quality of raw materials to ensure standards and specifications are met
  • adapt ingredient quantities to match items being baked
  • apply glazes whipped cream or toppings to baked goods using spatulas or brushes
  • prepare garnishes as needed for baked goods
  • decorate baked goods such as cream pies using a pastry bag
  • set time and speed controls for mixing or blending machines for proper mixing or cooking
  • measure or weigh ingredients to prepare batters doughs fillings or whipped cream
  • obtain ice from ice machine and carry it to bakeshop
  • lift and carry heavy bags of flour buckets of honey and other supplies to bakeshop
  • carry stacks of full sheet trays to bakeshop
  • carry large pots for making pastry cream syrups and toppings
  • package baked goods in appropriate trays or pans and move them to storage
  • stand on tile floor for extended hours in hot crowded environment
  • clean all baking equipment including ovens mixers proofer floors freezer and refrigerators
  • clean breakdown and put away station materials
  • report to work on time and follow scheduling policies
