Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree with relevant industry experience
  • Verifiable industry experience as specified
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse backgrounds
  • Medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct given after selection
  • Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination policy
  • Ability to work over 30 hours per week including over 21 hours of teaching
  • Flexibility to teach various schedules including evenings, weekends, and offsite locations
  • Ability to engage and motivate students using diverse teaching methods
  • Competence in curriculum development and assessment
  • Effective collaboration with colleagues
  • Ability to supervise and mentor students during live events

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of verifiable industry experience or Associate’s degree and six years of verifiable industry experience
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Experience in front and back of the house hotel/restaurant operations and food and beverage management
  • Experience as general manager or executive chef in hotel or restaurant kitchen
  • Experience managing and leading large scale catering events
  • Educational background specific to hospitality/culinary industry
  • Experience in training or teaching in industry or higher education
  • Serve Safe Certified and Serve Safe Proctor
  • Proven record of training food service employees
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Fundamental knowledge of cooking foundations
  • Extensive knowledge of international cuisine and cooking
  • Skilled in butchery and fabrication of primal cuts
  • Proficiency in a la minute, batch cookery, and baking/patisserie principles
  • Personal characteristics for successful teaching including leadership and emotional stability
  • Strong understanding of food service cost controls including budgeting, inventory management, and waste reduction

Job Duties

  • Teach a variety of culinary arts courses including catering and other assigned courses
  • Maintain, review, and submit student enrollment and attendance data timely
  • Establish and convene industry advisory committees and promote business and community partnerships
  • Attend all required meetings and collaborate effectively with colleagues
  • Develop and revise syllabi, curriculum, student/program learning outcomes and program reviews
  • Provide direct instruction and coaching in catering operations, event planning, customer service, and business management
  • Integrate cost control, budgeting, menu planning, food safety, and marketing principles into the curriculum
  • Coordinate course schedules, event assignments, and instructional materials to support live catering opportunities
  • Supervise and mentor students during live catering events to ensure professional standards and safety
  • Engage students using diverse teaching methods including technology
  • Participate in outcomes assessment and program improvements
  • Create instructional materials using course management systems (Canvas) and industry software
  • Prepare and present lecture courses and execute lesson plans
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
