Job Requirements
- Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years
- Valid State driver's license
- Fluency in the English language
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently with or without reasonable accommodation
- Good distant vision in each eye and ability to read printed materials without strain
- Ability to hear conversational voice
- No physical condition that poses a hazard or interferes with flying as passenger in various aircraft
- Possess a valid second-class medical certificate per FAA regulations
- Pass recurrent FAA medical examinations
- Meet specialized experience requirements equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-12 level
- Must meet qualifications by closing date of vacancy announcement
Job Qualifications
- Hold an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating or a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument Helicopter ratings
- Hold a valid and unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument Helicopter ratings
- Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours as pilot-in-command or second-in-command, including at least 1,000 hours in helicopters
- At least 200 hours of flight instruction in a helicopter
- Minimum 100 flight hours in helicopters or 100 hours as pilot in a Level D simulator for helicopter in the past five years
- No more than two flying accidents involving pilot error in the last five years
- Specialized experience related to certification, surveillance, investigation, and enforcement activities of FAR Part 135 air carriers
- Demonstrated proficiency in airplane or simulator for Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) positions
- Fluent in English
Job Duties
- Function as the primary interface between assigned air operators, agencies, airmen, designees, and the FAA
- Assure that assigned organizations meet Federal Aviation Regulations concerning helicopter operations
- Monitor and issue certificates to aviation organizations
- Conduct certification, surveillance, investigation, and enforcement activities related to FAR Part 135 air carriers and operators
- Review and ensure compliance with aviation safety standards and regulations
- Provide guidance and technical support to assigned organizations
- Evaluate organizational programs for safety and operational effectiveness
