Job Requirements

  • Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Fluency in the English language
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Good distant vision in each eye and ability to read printed materials without strain
  • Ability to hear conversational voice
  • No physical conditions that would interfere with ability to fly as a passenger in various aircraft
  • Possession of valid second-class medical certificate and pass recurrent medical examinations if required by position
  • Demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS/FG-13 level as Aviation Safety Inspector
  • Meet Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standards for 1825 series
  • For general aviation operations, must meet additional flight and certification requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Aviation Safety Series, 1825
  • Experience equivalent to GS/FG-13 as an Aviation Safety Inspector
  • Specialized experience in certification, surveillance, investigation, and enforcement activities
  • Valid flight instructor certificate with single and multi-engine airplane and instrument airplane ratings for general aviation operations
  • Professional flying skill demonstrated through commercial pilot certificate with instrument rating
  • Possession of airline transport pilot certificate or commercial pilot certificate with instrument airplane rating
  • Minimum of 100 flight hours within the last 3 years
  • Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours
  • Possession of single and multi-engine land airplane ratings
  • Valid second-class FAA medical certificate

Job Duties

  • Justify and recommend new or amended aviation safety procedures
  • Manage, establish, implement, and coordinate the operations portion of the FAA Safety Team program
  • Provide FAASTeam program support both within and outside assigned field office geographic areas as directed
  • Conduct surveillance and enforcement activities related to aviation safety
  • Assist in certification, investigation, and technical functions necessary for FAA regulatory compliance
  • Communicate and collaborate with aviation community stakeholders to promote safety education
  • Monitor and evaluate safety programs to ensure adherence to federal aviation regulations
