Job Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Three years of work experience in safety program development and management
  • One year of supervisory experience related to position responsibilities
  • Must pass airport background check and Security Threat Assessment
  • Valid State of Illinois driver's license required
  • May be on call 24/7 depending on operational needs
  • Ability to complete an interview as part of selection process

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Aviation Management, Public Administration, or related field
  • Three years of experience in developing and managing safety programs
  • At least one year of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience with safety management systems and emergency preparedness
  • Strong leadership, communication, and investigative skills
  • Ability to liaise with governmental agencies and airport stakeholders
  • Proficient in conducting training and risk assessments

Job Duties

  • Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of Safety Specialists inspecting airport construction projects
  • Serves as liaison between local and federal government agencies and integrates safety practices into daily work for employees, contractors, and tenants
  • Coordinates and performs site inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and safety manuals during construction projects
  • Supervises assessment of safety hazards and documents findings to mitigate risks
  • Develops and recommends new safety policies and work practices
  • Conducts investigations of incidents for insurance and legal purposes
  • Facilitates training and communicates updated safety guidelines to staff
  • Advises and participates in safety committees
  • Researches and recommends purchase of safety resources
  • Oversees updating and licensing of airport safety equipment
  • Prepares reports on safety plans goals and objectives
  • Participates in Safety Management System team and coordinates safety procedures for emergency preparedness
  • Keeps abreast of new legislation to ensure compliance
