Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizen
  • Subject to background/suitability investigation
  • Federal payments by Direct Deposit required
  • Submit all required documents and questionnaire
  • Registered with Selective Service if applicable
  • Valid second-class medical certificate
  • Valid flight instructor certificate with rotorcraft helicopter ratings
  • Commercial Helicopter Pilot Rating with Instrument or ATP with Helicopter Rating
  • No more than 2 flying accidents in last 5 years with applicant error
  • Minimum 1,500 total flight hours
  • 1,200 hours Pilot in Command in category
  • 25 hours PIC night in category
  • Minimum 100 flight hours PIC turbine powered helicopters
  • Valid driver’s license (Alaska or other state)
  • Submit proof of certificates and driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel frequently including Alaska and Hawaii
  • Must pass drug test
  • Must complete financial disclosure report
  • Adhere to conflict of interest restrictions
  • Compliance with probationary or trial period as applicable

Job Qualifications

  • Valid second-class or greater medical certificate
  • Valid, unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with Rotorcraft Helicopter ratings
  • Commercial Helicopter Pilot Rating with Instrument or Airline Transport Pilot with Helicopter Rating
  • No more than 2 flying accidents in last 5 years involving applicant error
  • Minimum 1,500 total flight hours
  • 1,200 hours of Pilot in Command time in category
  • 25 hours PIC night in category
  • Minimum 100 flight hours PIC Turbine Powered Helicopters
  • Operational experience flying rotor-wing aircraft in natural resource missions
  • Administering flight checks for rotor-wing aircraft
  • Conducting rotor-wing pilot proficiency evaluations
  • Must meet all specialized experience requirements for grade level
  • Must possess valid Alaska or other state driver’s license

Job Duties

  • Evaluates contractor capabilities and issues qualification cards for specialized flights
  • Provides technical aviation assistance to various DOI bureaus and offices
  • Maintains recurring contacts with bureau personnel and aviation operators
  • Evaluates management and supervision qualifications related to aircraft operations
  • Leads and conducts inspections of fleet aircraft and maintenance facilities
  • Coordinates aircraft rental agreement renewals for contractors and cooperating agencies
  • Acts as the point of contact for inspections and coordination with authorized inspectors and the Forest Service
