Job Requirements

  • Possession of minimum qualifications as described in the Aviation Officer II (Flight Operations) classification specifications
  • Continuous maintenance of all required certifications
  • Completion of recruitment questionnaire as highly encouraged
  • Submission of complete State Examination/Employment Application STD 678
  • Inclusion of a current resume with application
  • Ability to work full-time in Sacramento County office
  • Compliance with all state employment and safety regulations
  • Availability to respond to emergencies and adapt to shift work if necessary

Job Qualifications

  • Valid pilot certification appropriate for fixed-wing air tanker operations
  • Experience in flight operations, particularly in emergency or wildfire response settings
  • Knowledge of aviation safety regulations and protocols
  • Ability to maintain required certifications continuously
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Physical fitness suitable for demanding flight duties
  • Familiarity with CAL FIRE mission and operations

Job Duties

  • Operate fixed-wing air tanker aircraft for wildfire suppression missions
  • Maintain continuous currency and certifications as required for Aviation Officer II classification
  • Conduct pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections and safety checks
  • Coordinate with ground and air firefighting teams for effective mission execution
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulatory compliance during flight operations
  • Participate in training and emergency preparedness drills
  • Compile and submit flight and operational reports
