Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- at least 18 years of age
- completion of an EMT Basic/Intermediate/Paramedic program and acceptance for certification in the State of Texas and maintaining certification
- maintain current valid Texas Driver's License
- current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR card
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications
- effective communication skills both oral and written
- ability to read, write, and speak English
- ability to read a map and have basic knowledge of State, County, and other public roadways
- knowledge of Texas Administrative Code 157
- knowledge of EMS related rules, regulations, and policies
- must not be excluded by OIG from federally funded healthcare programs
- ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 125 pounds
- ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- ability to perform physically demanding tasks and maintain emotional and mental stability under high stress
- adherence to all agency policies and procedures
- regular and reliable attendance
- valid Texas Driver's License maintained

- knowledge of other standards, rules, regulations, and policies related to EMS
- any other requirements as determined by the Office of the Medical Director
- may not have been excluded by the OIG to participate in federally funded healthcare programs
- previous experience in a 911 EMS system is preferred
- one year of full-time EMS experience is preferred
Job Duties
- Competently render both emergency pre-hospital care
- assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol
- develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls
- consider patient status and patient requests when determining transportation destinations
- utilize medical equipment including cardiac monitor, oxygen and suction devices, CPR and other procedures and medications as required
- attend and participate in all required continuing education and meetings of HCESD11 and the Medical Directors Office
- maintain all certifications as required by the Medical Director and HCESD11
- comply with HCESD11 and Department of State Health Services requirements for continuing education and licensure
- communicate information through the proper chain of command to management and other employees of HCESD11
- comply with local, state, and regional emergency medical service operations, regulations, and laws
- accurately document required information on all documentation required by HCESD11, Department of State Health Services and Office of the Medical Director
- communicate with Controllers to receive and understand call data and request additional resources or needs
- monitor and maintain general condition of HCESD11 property including vehicles, equipment, buildings, and surrounding areas
- participate in community programs to establish strong community relations including those sponsored by police, fire departments, and other external customers
- effectively function in the Dynamic Resources Management System
- safely operate and maintain emergency vehicles and equipment
- communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and loved ones
- maintain a clean appearance and demonstrate courteous, professional, and ethical behavior
- work cooperatively with other members of the EMS Health Care System
- ensure confidentiality of medical and other discretionary information
- other duties as assigned
