Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business, or related field
  • 10 plus years of hospitality leadership experience
  • Experience in private clubs, luxury hotels, resorts, or historic properties with multi-department operations oversight
  • Proven ability to manage financials including budgets and revenue models
  • Experience working with Boards or governance committees
  • Proven strategic planning and leadership skills
  • Ability to lead high-touch service environments
  • Experience with digital marketing and social media
  • Ability to develop and implement operational policies and procedures
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Facility management and project oversight experience
  • Fundraising experience
  • Ability to foster positive workplace culture
  • Compliance with local, state, and federal laws

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business, or related field
  • 10 plus years of hospitality leadership experience
  • Established experience in private clubs, luxury hotels, resorts, or historic properties with multi-department operations oversight
  • Proven success overseeing hotel and private club financials including budgets, member dues models, food, beverage, and events performance
  • Experience working with Boards, Trustees, or governance committees including reporting and strategic collaboration
  • Strong track record of strategic planning and organizational leadership
  • Experience in leading high-touch service environments focused on exceptional member and guest experiences
  • Demonstrated success in digital marketing, social media, and brand repositioning initiatives
  • Master's degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or related field preferred
  • Experience in higher education preferred
  • Experience managing historic hotels, luxury membership clubs, or heritage properties with preservation considerations preferred
  • Certified Club Manager (CCM), Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA), Certified Hospitality Professional (CHP), or other relevant credentials preferred
  • Active involvement in professional associations such as CMAA or AHLA preferred

Job Duties

  • Provide strategic leadership and broad direction to all departments within The Athenaeum including fiscal operations, hotel operations, membership and marketing, food and beverage, culinary, purchasing, and private and club events
  • Oversee the planning, development, formulation, and implementation of operational policies, programs, procedures, communications strategies, and business plans
  • Establish, implement, communicate, and reinforce the club's philosophy, mission, and vision in alignment with Institute goals and governance bodies
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality products, services, programs, and support to members, guests, and campus departments
  • Collaborate with various committees to report on financial and operational status and advise on policy
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws through license and certification renewals
  • Provide broad direction for high-profile events impacting the Institute's reputation
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships within the Caltech community
  • Formulate and monitor annual operating and capital budgets and business plans
  • Identify and develop new revenue streams and control costs
  • Oversee management reports and financial statements with focus on revenue and cost control
  • Make key decisions on hiring, terminations, promotions, salary, training, and performance evaluations
  • Cultivate a positive and productive workplace environment
  • Oversee care and maintenance of club facilities and physical assets
  • Provide direction on renovation and construction projects including budgeting
  • Act as primary communicator for club information to members and staff
  • Oversee member relations and marketing campaigns including social media and website management
  • Expand fundraising efforts particularly for the Athenaeum Architectural Preservation Fund
  • Participate in community outreach activities to enhance club prestige
