Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business, or related field
- 10+ years of hospitality leadership experience
- Experience in private clubs, luxury hotels, resorts, or historic properties
- Proven financial management skills including budgeting and revenue growth
- Ability to work with boards and governance committees
- Strong strategic planning and organizational leadership skills
- Experience in delivering exceptional member and guest service
- Proven digital marketing and social media expertise
- Preferred: Master's degree
- Preferred: experience in higher education
- Preferred: experience managing historic or heritage properties
- Preferred: relevant professional certifications
- Preferred: involvement with professional associations
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business, or related field
- 10+ years of hospitality leadership experience
- Established experience in a private club, luxury hotel, resort, or historic property with multi-department operational oversight
- Proven success managing hotel and private club financials including operating and capital budgets, member dues models, and KPIs
- Experience working with Boards, Trustees, or governance committees with strategic collaboration
- Track record of strategic planning and organizational leadership
- Experience leading high-touch service environments focused on exceptional member and guest experiences
- Demonstrated success in digital marketing, social media, and brand repositioning initiatives
- Master's degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or related field preferred
- Experience in higher education preferred
- Experience managing historic hotels, luxury membership clubs, or heritage properties with preservation considerations preferred
- Certified Club Manager, Certified Hotel Administrator, Certified Hospitality Professional, or related credentials preferred
- Active involvement in professional associations such as CMAA or AHLA preferred
Job Duties
- Provide strategic leadership and broad direction to all departments within The Athenaeum, including fiscal operations, hotel operations, membership and marketing, food and beverage, culinary, purchasing, and private and club events
- Oversee the planning, development, formulation, and implementation of specific operational policies, programs, procedures, communications strategies, and business plans
- Establish, implement, communicate, and reinforce the overall philosophy, mission, and vision of the club as these relate to Institute goals and as established by the Board of Governors, House Committee, and Vice President for Administration and Chief Operating Officer
- Ensure the delivery of the highest quality products, services, programs, and support to all members and their guests, and to campus divisions and departments
- Collaborate and work in partnership with various committees to communicate club's financial or operational state, and provide advice on policy revisions or creation
- Assure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws through renewals of business licenses, permits, and certifications
- Provide broad direction for high-profile events impacting the Institute's reputation
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships and open communications with the Caltech community
- Formulate annual operating and capital budgets and business plans
- Evaluate existing revenue sources and develop new revenue streams
- Oversee management reports and financial statements with focus on revenue and cost control
- Make key HR decisions including hiring, promotions, salary changes, training, and performance evaluations
- Cultivate a positive, productive workplace
- Oversee care and maintenance of the club's physical assets and facilities, including renovation and construction projects
- Act as the primary communicator to club members and staff
- Oversee member relations and marketing programs, including social media and communications collateral
- Expand the Athenaeum Architectural Preservation Fund and work with Advancement on donor relations
- Participate in community activities and events to enhance club prestige and operations
