Job Requirements

  • Standard high school diploma or equivalent
  • three years of industrial, commercial, or educational facility experience
  • ability to follow standard custodial practices
  • ability to act as head custodian in his/her absence
  • ability to plan and direct the work of others
  • knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment use
  • understanding of energy conservation
  • physical ability to climb ladders and perform physically demanding tasks
  • ability to follow instructions
  • completion of job related training program
  • computer skills

Job Qualifications

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) testing program
  • three years of industrial, commercial, or educational facility experience
  • ability to follow standard custodial practices
  • ability to act as head custodian in his/her absence
  • ability to plan and direct the work of others and prepare work programs and schedules
  • considerable knowledge of all cleaning materials, preparation and proper use of all cleaning equipment
  • understanding and practice of energy conservation
  • physical ability to climb and work from ladders
  • ability to assume responsibility and follow written and oral instructions
  • physical ability to operate heavy duty floor scrubbing and rug shampooing equipment
  • completion of professional and master facilities service job related training program prior to applying for the position
  • computer skills as required for position
  • bilingual skills preferred

Job Duties

  • Review work performed by facilities serviceperson and other employees assigned to the shift as assigned by the head custodian
  • instruct subordinate personnel in the proper use of supplies, equipment, chemicals, ladders and safety procedures
  • perform the duties of facilities serviceperson
  • activate, monitor, adjust and turn off boilers, air conditioning equipment, power sources, etc.
  • climb steps and ladders to change light bulbs and effect minor repairs when directed
  • verify the security of the school prior to departure by closing and locking gates, inspecting the school perimeter, activating security devices, and locking doors
  • inform supervisor of needed supplies and recognize building equipment, mechanical equipment and structural problems which require servicing or maintenance
  • perform the duties of the head facilities serviceperson during vacation and other non-extended periods of time
  • practice safety continuously and ensure that a safe working area exists
  • participate successfully in training programs to increase skill and proficiency
  • complete all projects competently and ensure proper recording of time and materials
