Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • At least one year of supervisory or food preparation experience in an institutional setting or equivalent training and experience
  • Valid Chicago Department of Public Health Certified Foodservice Manager Certificate
  • Ability to work in environments with temperature extremes
  • Capability to lift frequently 25 pounds and occasionally 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks such as stooping, crouching, climbing, bending, reaching, handling, and fingering
  • Ability to taste and smell for food quality assessment
  • Compliance with Chicago Public Schools Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy including various testing
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • At least one year of supervisory or food preparation experience in an institutional setting or equivalent experience and training
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Chicago Department of Public Health Certified Foodservice Manager Certificate
  • Thorough knowledge of HACCP methods and sanitation principles
  • Ability to plan, assign, and review the work of others
  • Proficient oral and communication skills
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fraction use
  • Ability to work in a school environment with a caring attitude towards students

Job Duties

  • Supervising lunchroom personnel including attendants, porters, and cooks
  • Participating in the preparation of a variety of food items according to Nutrition Support Services guidelines
  • Monitoring and maintaining the cleaning and sanitation of lunchroom facilities and equipment
  • Conducting regular staff meetings to communicate daily lunchroom needs and safety protocols
  • Managing inventory, placing food orders, and verifying delivery accuracy
  • Ensuring food safety by following HACCP guidelines and monitoring proper food storage and preparation temperatures
  • Handling cash collection from food sales and preparing bank deposits
  • Documenting disciplinary issues and attending mandatory trainings
  • Operating POS terminals and maintaining accurate production and temperature records
  • Cleaning and maintaining kitchen and serving areas including dishwashing and restocking
  • Assisting in piloting and implementing new nutrition programs
