Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs or related field
  • Three to five years of progressive related experience in Higher Education/Student Affairs or related field
  • Expectation to work some nights and weekends throughout the year
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to operate professionally and autonomously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other programs
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive within a team structure
  • Responsive and timely decision making

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs or related field
  • Three to five years of progressive related experience in Higher Education/Student Affairs or related field
  • Experience managing student programming and event planning
  • Skill in contract negotiation and risk assessment
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
  • Ability to design and implement leadership training initiatives
  • Experience with budget management and financial oversight
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the advisement and management of Hurricane Productions, UM's student-run programming board
  • Oversees planning, implementation, risk assessment, contracting, and program assessment of approximately 200 programs per year
  • Develops and implements comprehensive marketing plans for campus events in collaboration with Student Affairs Marketing and Communications
  • Designs and executes leadership training initiatives including an annual spring leadership/new officer retreat
  • Oversees planning, execution, and evaluation of Senior Send Off festivities
  • Provides administrative oversight to Category 5 - Athletic Programming Board and Student Fan Zone
  • Designs and implements assessment measures to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Negotiates, reviews, edits, and executes complex contracts for events and programs
  • Serves as resource for student organization leaders and university administrators regarding event planning, policy, contract negotiation, and risk assessment
  • Represents the Department on various division and university-wide committees
  • Assists with department and division-wide programs such as Canefest, Commencement, Student Fan Zone, Homecoming, and other special events
  • Supervises an Assistant Director and a graduate assistant
  • Provides daily supervision and feedback to student employees
  • Manages budgets exceeding $1 million including operational forecasts and compliance
  • Engages in sponsor/donor cultivation to support programs
  • Contributes ideas to Senior Director on operational and strategic plans
  • Makes daily independent decisions to meet department objectives and ensure policy compliance
