Job Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • certified Transportation Safety Institute bus operator trainer
  • must have Class B Commercial Driver License
  • prefer candidate with Airbrakes and Passenger endorsements
  • valid active medical examiners certificate
  • minimum 3 years transit experience with Class B commercial vehicles
  • knowledge of DOT, OSHA, NIMS, EPA, ADA standards
  • ability to develop safety programs and conduct investigations
  • maintain confidentiality
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to work flexible hours and shifts
  • must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
  • favorable background check
  • pass physical examination

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma required
  • college degree preferred
  • certified Transportation Safety Institute bus operator trainer
  • Class B Commercial Driver License

  • at least 3 years progressive transit experience with Class B commercial vehicles
  • knowledgeable with DOT policies, OSHA, NIMS, EPA standards and ADA requirements
  • experienced in developing and implementing safety program plans
  • ability to conduct investigations and analyze data
  • strong oral and written communication skills
  • working knowledge of adult education principles
  • proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
  • excellent time management and organizational skills
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce
  • ability to interpret and explain regulations

Job Duties

  • Select, hire and train qualified bus operator candidates
  • work flexible hours to meet business needs
  • maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive material
  • conduct oral presentations relaying technical information
  • communicate job requirements and responsibilities to drivers
  • collaborate with Human Resources on driver hiring and compliance
  • provide direction and guidance to location trainers
  • develop, teach and monitor classroom training to ensure compliance
  • oversee and schedule re-certification and re-training sessions
  • design and deliver driver training and safety courses
  • create and maintain all required driver files
  • coordinate monthly safety reporting and analyze performance trends
  • inform location leadership team of safety performance
  • promote continuous improvement in safety performance
  • chair Safety and Accident Review committees
  • investigate incidents, accidents, and work-related injuries
  • direct Drug and Alcohol Program to ensure federal compliance
  • lead site implementation of Safety Management System Plan
  • monitor compliance with SMS policies through audits
  • ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory safety policies
  • assist maintenance manager with environmental compliance
  • monitor and evaluate risk control strategies
  • identify and assess new workplace hazards
  • oversee ongoing monitoring of safety performance
  • establish and maintain a culture of safety
  • display exemplary safety-oriented behaviors
  • ensure a just culture within the organization
  • oversee instructors to ensure training quality and consistency
  • plan, schedule and deliver monthly safety meetings
  • conduct drug and alcohol screening as part of employment
  • promote commitment to safety and environmental responsibility
