The City of California is seeking dedicated individuals to join its Parks & Community Services Department as part-time Youth Recreational Program Assistants. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school or GED
  • Experience in recreation, sports, or youth leadership
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to work flexible hours including outdoor activities
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Effective communication skills in English

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of planning and organizing group recreation and social activities
  • Basic rules, practices, and equipment used in specialized recreation activities
  • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures
  • Ability to formulate and lead recreation programs
  • Ability to supervise recreational activities
  • Effective communication skills in English both written and oral
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Valid and appropriate California Driver's License
  • First Aid and CPR certification required within 6 months from date of hire
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school with recreation, sports, and leadership experience and involvement in youth activities
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Job Duties

  • Lead and conduct recreation activities including arts, crafts, dancing, drama, music, sports, games, and cooking
  • Maintain discipline on indoor and outdoor play areas
  • Teach and instruct youth in various games and rules of play
  • Ensure safety of recreation participants and spectators
  • Render routine first aid in case of minor injuries
  • Assist with inventory and supply procedures
  • Pick up supplies and set up equipment, tables, and chairs for classes
  • Work special events and perform related duties as required
