Job Requirements
- Being 21+ years old
- Holding current certifications in CPR and First Aid
- Having 2+ years of camping or customer service experience
- Knowledge and experience in youth behavior management and child abuse prevention
- Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
- Ability to participate in rigorous outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, camping and swimming
- Ability to relate professionally with parents, caregivers, campers and staff
- Must have a valid driver license held for at least three years
- Must have a driving record meeting YMCA standards (no more than two moving violations in last three years, no significant incidents such as reckless driving or DUI/DWI in last five years)
- Ability to pass a drug screening including marijuana
- Must be able to live onsite at camp
- Ability to stay on call overnight as assigned
- Ability to comply with YMCA policies and procedures
Job Qualifications
- 21 years or older preferred
- Current certifications in CPR and First Aid
- 2+ years camping/customer service experience
- Experience with and knowledge of youth behavior management and child abuse prevention
- Ability to respond to emergency situations
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Must be able to work independently, exercise good judgment and demonstrate organizational skills
- Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous outdoor activity including hiking, boating, camping and swimming
- Ability to relate to parents/caregivers, campers, and staff in a professional manner
- Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations
- Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building
- Current Wilderness First Aid strongly preferred
Job Duties
- Supervises assigned seasonal staff by observing, coaching, providing feedback, evaluating, and assisting with problem solving
- Supervises and assists with specific camper supervision
- Ensures all staff are accounting for campers and safety at all times, especially campers who need extra support
- Plans and implements all camp programming and events
- Assists in day-to-day operations of summer programs
- Manages camper and staff behaviors
- Communicates with caregivers or guardians as needed
- Maintains high standards of housekeeping including bathrooms, cabins and main lodge
- Assists in keeping all program equipment in working condition and available
- Assists in maintaining all program areas in a safe and orderly condition
- Ensures communication with support staff, including kitchen and maintenance staff
- Attends staff meetings
- Participates in and leads specific areas of staff training
- Stays on call overnight as assigned
- Maintains relevant American Camping Association standards
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
- Performs other duties as assigned
