Job Requirements

  • Doctorate or Master’s degree in Aviation, Aeronautics, or related field
  • significant aviation industry experience or proven research capability
  • ability to teach specialized aviation courses
  • strong commitment to teaching and working with a diverse student body
  • ability to develop curriculum and labs
  • capability to secure external funding for research
  • publication record or potential
  • cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • readiness to abide by university policies including mandated reporting and Clery Act compliance
  • eligibility to work in the United States
  • on-campus presence required in California
  • satisfactory background check

Job Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Aviation, Aeronautics, or related field, or Master’s degree with significant aviation industry experience
  • expertise in subject matter of courses taught
  • commitment to teaching diverse students
  • ability to innovate curriculum
  • experience in developing research programs and labs
  • demonstrated record or potential for publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
  • awareness of educational goals of diverse student populations
  • research expertise in aircraft systems design, flight controls, flight operations, avionics, or flight training preferred
  • valid FAA flight certificates and experience with FAA regulations preferred
  • extensive industry or academic research and teaching experience in aviation field preferred

Job Duties

  • Develop all necessary course materials
  • teach assigned courses following standard practices
  • grade assignments, exams, and project reports
  • enforce academic policies including integrity violations
  • coordinate activities of teaching assistants and graders
  • post final grades timely
  • contribute to ongoing assessment and improvement of teaching effectiveness
  • maintain an active research lab providing student research opportunities
  • participate in department, college, and university committees and service assignments
  • organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System
  • demonstrate awareness of needs of diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement
