Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution and two years of related full-time professional experience
  • Or associate degree with six years of related full-time professional experience
  • Possess and maintain ServeSafe Food Safety Manager certification and associated proctor license
  • Ability to qualify for district vehicle insurance coverage
  • Compliance with commercial kitchen regulations
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds including disabilities
  • Ability to travel within and outside district as needed
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to professional ethics and standards in hospitality and culinary arts
  • Willingness to fulfill all full-time faculty duties including teaching evenings and weekends
  • Completion of equivalency petition if minimum qualifications are not met.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Two years of full-time professional experience in hospitality or culinary arts or management
  • Extensive industry experience as a lead chef, baker, restaurant or resort manager
  • Knowledge of hospitality and culinary principles and workforce needs
  • Experience in curriculum design and academic instruction
  • Ability to apply pedagogical theories and instructional technology
  • Skill in coordinating academic programs, including budgeting and inventory management
  • Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience teaching in higher education, preferably in California Community Colleges
  • ServeSafe Food Safety Manager certification
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to commercial kitchens
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.

Job Duties

  • Provide instruction in assigned hospitality and culinary arts classes under supervision of the Dean of Academic Affairs
  • Support students in achieving course progress and program completion towards educational and vocational goals
  • Assess student learning outcomes and program effectiveness
  • Participate in articulation, curriculum development, and review activities
  • Maintain currency in disciplines of hospitality, culinary arts, and management
  • Oversee industry advisory committee and collaborate with industry partners
  • Coordinate program elements such as purchasing, inventory management, and compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Utilize current technology in teaching and program administration
  • Engage in college service including faculty governance, accreditation, and committee participation
  • Fulfill other duties of a full-time faculty member adhering to college policies and standards
  • Possibly instruct in multiple modalities including in-person, hybrid, and online formats during evenings or weekends at any college site or campus.
