Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months to 1 year experience in affordable housing or property management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly
  • Experience working with diverse and low-income communities
  • Ability to manage tenant recertifications and income certifications
  • Knowledge of housing regulations and compliance
  • Ability to supervise and manage staff
  • Willingness to work Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • Experience serving diverse, low-income, and multi-ethnic communities with respect and empathy
  • Self-motivated and capable of independent problem solving
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication
  • Able to handle pressure situations calmly and professionally
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with general management of subsidized housing programs
  • 6 months to 1 year experience in affordable programs completing income certifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience preferred
  • Certified HUD, Tax Credit Specialist, Low Income Tax Credit designations a plus
  • Knowledge of Section 8 Housing Assistance Program practices and principles
  • Prior experience in affordable housing or nonprofit residential property management
  • Property management software knowledge including Yardi, Boston Post, OneSite a plus
  • Knowledge of budget management, facilities issues, building systems, and housing quality standards
  • Certification or knowledge of high-rise fire safety guidelines
  • Knowledge and experience with TRACS software if applicable
  • Familiarity with Tenderloin Neighborhood
  • Experience in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, resident relations
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and homelessness issues
  • Ability to speak a language other than English such as Spanish, Chinese, or Tagalog

Job Duties

  • Perform supervisory, administrative, and management tasks in the absence of the General Manager
  • Aid or conduct new resident lease orientations, certifications, and responsibilities
  • Conduct background checks on applicants and recommend for acceptance or rejection
  • Interview prospective residents, show vacant units, and explain equipment use
  • Manage, interview, and prepare initial and recertification of tenant income and family composition
  • Keep and monitor lease and accounting records, accounts receivable, delinquency records, and eviction notices
  • Coordinate maintenance work orders and inspect apartments and grounds
  • Attend professional activities, meetings, regulatory agency meetings, and inspections as needed
  • Submit internal and external reports
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure property success
  • Manage day-to-day administration of property office including cleanliness, professionalism, answering phones, mail handling, inventory, and maintenance scheduling
  • Collect rent and account for monies, scan checks, enter payments into Yardi, manage tenant receivables, and handle eviction processes
  • Prepare and complete resident initial and recertifications including notification, documentation collection, third-party verification, compliance review, approval submission, and record keeping
  • Manage tenant relations by responding to requests, addressing complaints, building positive relationships, resolving conflicts, respecting cultural and economic needs, enforcing property rules, and documenting violations
  • Supervise desk clerks through recruiting, hiring, approving timesheets, conducting performance evaluations, and monitoring expenditures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager
