Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two years of direct work experience in event organizing or teaching programs
- Minimum six months supervisory experience
- Six months work experience dealing with the public and handling cash
- Must have current certifications in Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED
- Ability to obtain Waterpark Lifeguarding certification within three months
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Understanding of pool chemical requirements or three months of relevant experience
- Valid driver’s license and insurability
- Ability to wear a respirator and pass a physical
- Criminal background check
- Proficiency test may be administered
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prefer an associate degree or higher in Recreation Management or related field
- Minimum two years of direct work experience organizing events or teaching programs to children, youth, seniors, or individuals with physical or developmental disabilities
- Minimum six months supervisory experience
- Six months of experience dealing with the public, operating a personal computer and/or cash register, and handling cash
- Must possess and maintain certification as a Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED as recognized by the American Red Cross or equivalent
- Ability to obtain Waterpark Lifeguarding certification within three months of hire
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Demonstrated understanding of pool chemical requirements or three months of experience in testing and maintaining chemical balance
- Valid driver’s license and maintain insurability under the Borough’s insurance program
Job Duties
- Provide on-site technical direction of work production to lower-level positions
- Provide recreational aquatic activities for children and youth, adults, and persons with disabilities
- Prepare daily and monthly lesson plans for all assigned swim classes
- Issue passes for recreational programs and monitor/enforce proper safety rules in the swimming pool
- Provide routine cleanup and general maintenance of locker rooms and natatorium seating and perform custodial duties
- Clean, repair, and maintain chemical feed systems and pool equipment
- Perform State of Alaska-required pool water testing, calculate, mix and add chemicals while wearing required safety gear
- Perform lifeguard duties
- supervise and respond to all manner of emergency situations
- Inspect facilities to detect and report damage or safety concerns
- Monitor and maintain chemical systems to ensure pool safety
- Inform participants of facility rules and ensure that scheduled activities are enforced
- Respond to patrons' questions/needs and refer to the manager when appropriate
- Responsible for checking patrons in and out of locker rooms on sign-up sheets
- Assist in the setup and takedown of facilities for special events at the swimming pool and tennis courts
- Open facilities for daily activities

- Balance change fund and reconcile with deposits at end of shift
- Plan, organize, and implement special events and recreational programs

- Operate a point-of-sale system, process cash, check, and credit card sales and take facility reservations using recreation scheduling software
- Build and maintain online facility programs and schedules and troubleshoot software issues
