Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2 years of relevant hospitality experience
  • ability to run shifts and manage staff
  • knowledge of event management standards and brand policies
  • strong communication and coaching skills
  • ability to handle guest complaints effectively
  • proficiency in scheduling and inventory management
  • knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • ability to participate in human resource functions
  • must be willing to work full time on-site at Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major
  • minimum 2 years experience in food and beverage, culinary, guest services, front desk, housekeeping, or related professional area
  • or at least 3 years of experience in two hospitality areas if no standard educational background
  • experience running a shift, scheduling, performance management, problem solving, daily operations, hospitality skills preferred
  • knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • strong leadership and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Communicates service needs to chefs and stewards throughout functions
  • totals charges for group functions and prepares and presents checks to group contacts for payment
  • verifies banquet rooms, restaurants, and coffee breaks are ready for service
  • inspects cleanliness and presentation of china, glass, and silver prior to use
  • checks in with guests to verify satisfaction
  • sets tables according to type of event and service standards
  • communicates additional meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests to the kitchen
  • supports compliance with brand standards and legal obligations
  • supports and leads shift teams to provide consistent, high quality service
  • coordinates and leads daily stand-up meetings, pre-shift meetings and pre and post-meal briefings
  • trains staff in processes and communicates performance expectations
  • assists in completion of financial and administrative duties
  • manages banquet inventories including ordering supplies
  • schedules banquet and event staff to meet forecasts and service standards
  • handles guest complaints and ensures guest satisfaction
  • participates in employee performance appraisal and training
  • enforces OSHA and safety regulations
