Job Requirements

  • valid driver's license
  • ability to climb in and out of large fleet trucks independently
  • ability to travel frequently district-wide
  • ability to work overtime including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • successful completion of background screening
  • compliance with revolving door restrictions of 5 ILCS 430/5-45
  • filing of Statement of Economic Interest as per Illinois Governmental Ethics Act
  • completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or related technical/science curriculum plus five years of experience in relevant fields or seven years of experience in engineering technology, civil engineering, roadway construction, highway maintenance, traffic operations, public works, or related field
  • two years of supervisory experience

  • familiarity with the Federal Highway Administration's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • ability to plan and direct efforts for Emergency Traffic Patrol objectives
  • ability to maintain harmonious relationships with employees and various agencies
  • strong oral and/or written communication skills

Job Duties

  • maintains acceptable standards of productivity through effective organization of work crews
  • participates in disciplinary and grievance resolution proceedings
  • develops, trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate staff
  • recognizes, recommends, and implements procedures to optimize manpower, equipment, and funding
  • provides emergency services and freeway incident management
  • performs duties in compliance with safety rules
  • performs other duties as assigned
